Embracing the Sea

A sculpture on the sea front at Deal in Kent called "Embracing the Sea" which I think made a good shot in black and white.

Blood Red Sky

A quick snap taken from my office window one evening last week as the sun set over the Thames.

Dungeness Lighthouse

Dungeness Old Lighthouse

The old lighthouse at Dungeness, Kent.

Dungeness is a very unique and barren place. A vast flat expanse of shingle on the English Channel. Next door to the lighthouse is a nuclear power station and the station for the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch heritage steam railway.

Well worth a visit if you are in the area but if you go in the Winter don't forget your thermals!

Train Journey

Little man looking thoughtful. We were enjoying a trip on the Spa Valley Railway, a heritage steam line that runs between Tunbridge Wells and Groombridge on the Kent/Sussex border.

Dover Harbour

Dover is the gateway to Britain. This shot was taken from Dover Castle which looks out over the harbour. In the foreground is a P&O freight ferry "European Seaway" unloading trucks.

In the centre the ferry "Dover Seaways" is manoeuvring onto her berth.

In the background, the freight ferry "Sea France Nord Pas de Calais" is making her way out through the harbour entrance heading back to France.

On a clear day you can see the coast of France from Dover.

Purple Flower

I took this on a walk in the Kent countryside a couple of weeks ago. What I know about plants can be written on the back of a postage stamp but I believe this may be a clematis. Please feel free to correct/educate me if you know better!

Supermoon

Taken at around midnight this evening using a 300 mm lense and without a tripod. My first ever attempt at taking a picture of the moon. May be a bit better if we didn't have so much light polution here.

Daisy

This is Daisy, one of our four felines taking it easy on a Summer's day.

She is our chief mouse basher!

General Gordon

A statue of quintessential Victorian hero General Gordon who met a sticky end in the siege of Khartoum (Sudan).

The statue can be found in the park in Gravesend, Kent and if you'd like to read all about the General's exploits please visit my sister blog here.
